About

Roberta Shagam, Psychotherapist

I use a mindful talk therapy. By focusing on the body , we get below the level of thinking, to access unconscious core beliefs. The client identifies where they are feeling physical tensions and sensations. Then I direct them, through mindfulness, to associate these sensations with feelings, memories, images and core beliefs. We study these feelings together and learn how the client is REALLY feeling about their thoughts of pain, discomfort and being stuck in certain areas of their lives.

This process is like looking in a mirror, the client observes themselves and then decides if they are interested in changing. It is done at the client's own pace, by providing a supportive, safe and non-judgemental environment.

My initial visit with Roberta was informative and I liked it; however, I did not appreciate my appointment being for 8:15pm and I did not go into her office until close to 9:00pm. She cancelled my second appointment without reason and did not have another appointment for me until 2 1/2 weeks later. I attempted to text her in reference to the date and time of my rescheduled appointment to no avail. Finally I left her a voicemail once I realized that the appointment had past letting her know that I was trying to get in contact with her. She called me back on a Sunday morning and basically fired me as a patient saying I obviously was not ready for therapy. During this phone call she continued to go back and forth with me in a nasty manner which I thought was totally outrageous for a therapist to do. She claimed never to have gotten my text message, yet she operates off of her cell phone. But she did make it clear that she is running a business and she responds to voicemails and not text messages.
I would not recommend her to my worst enemy. I am not sure why she is so fast to send a patient back to the insurance company, I am guessing because my services were free through my company’s employee assistance program. So disappointed in the experience that I was hoping to be helpful!

She needs to get a scheduler reminder system setup! It helps as some people are not as organized as others and barely remember their daily To Do's never mind an appointment almost 3 weeks away. Also, she needs to get with the times as far as communicating via text if necessary.
