Sept. 16--WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe and Rep. John Sullivan on Thursday welcomed
a delay on proposed greenhouse gas standards for power plants that the
Oklahoma Republicans view as part of the Obama administration's job-destroying
agenda.
Inhofe also noted the delay by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
came shortly after President Barack Obama pulled the plug on EPA's efforts to
beef up ozone standards.
"I am very pleased by today's announcement that one of the EPA's most
economically damaging rules will be delayed," Inhofe said.
"This announcement, as well as President Obama's recent request that EPA
withdraw the ozone standard, makes one thing clear: not only will EPA's
barrage of regulations cost hundreds of thousands of American jobs, they may
cost President Obama his own job, and he knows it all too well."
Inhofe said Obama is punting on a number of the proposed regulations
until after the 2012 election.
Sullivan described the proposed greenhouse regulations as nothing more
than a back-door national energy tax on the American people when they can
least afford it.
"The Obama Administration is moving too fast with their regulatory agenda
and failing to realize the economic impact their energy and environmental
policies will have on our economy," he said.
Sullivan vowed to continue working against what he called "out of control
government regulation that destroys jobs and hurts" the economy.
According to Reuters, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said that her agency
will miss a Sept. 30 deadline to propose the greenhouse gas standards.
EPA said Thursday it will announce a new schedule soon.
"EPA has engaged in an extensive and open public process to gather the
latest and best information prior to proposing pollution standards for fossil
fuel-fired power plants, the largest stationary sources of carbon pollution,"
the agency stated. "We will fully consider all this information to develop
smart, cost-effective and protective standards."
