Flu Help Online

The American Medical Association recently unveiled AMAfluhelp.org, a flu health-assessment site that allows patients to assess symptoms quickly and interact with their physician.

The program, launched Oct. 22, will first walk patients through a series of questions to determine the severity of their flu symptoms based upon the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines - information they can share with their physician, family members and loved ones.

An extensive set of online tools also is available on AMAfluhelp.org to help physicians better monitor their patients' symptoms, facilitate care and treatment decisions and efficiently manage their practices' patient flow.

"With both seasonal flu and H1N1 circulating this year, physician offices are already busier than normal," said AMA board member Dr. Mary Anne McCaffree, in a written statement. "This resource allows patients to assess their symptoms and determine when to seek care for themselves or their loved ones."

Though AMAfluhelp.org can help patients assess their own flu symptoms, it also offers vaccine information for pregnant women, guidance on monitoring any post-vaccine related symptoms, and assistance in determining when to return to school or work after the flu.
