WASHINGTON, Sep 29, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The U.S. Food and Drug
Administration announced the recall of a limited quantity of Neocate-brand
specialized infant formula due to a blending error.
Nutricia North America Inc. of Gaithersburg, Md., said Neocate is a
hypoallergenic dry powder formula packaged in 14-ounce cans distributed to
pharmacies, healthcare professionals and consumers nationwide. The voluntary
recall was initiated because approximately 3,700 cans contain protein levels
lower than that declared on the label.
The company said short-term consumption of the recalled product is very unlikely
to cause nutritional issues, but longer term consumption might influence the
healthy growth curve in certain infants.
The recalled products have "Lot # P91877" printed at the bottom of each can and
on the right hand side of the case label.
Consumers with questions can contact the company at 800-365-7354, option 8-6061.
