ORLAND PARK, Fla., Sep 3, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Federal authorities said
testing confirmed a Florida man's Diet Pepsi can contained the remains of an
animal, thought to be a frog or toad.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the can of Diet Pepsi Fred Denegri of
Orland Park, Fla., drank from July 23 contained the remains of a frog or a toad,
the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.
Denegri's wife, Amy, said she and her husband thought the remains belonged to a
rodent, since the mass was too large to come out of the hole in the can.
The FDA said the can originated from Pepsi's plant in Orlando, Fla.
A Pepsi spokesman said the company is aware of the FDA's findings but officials
maintain the manufacturing process is safe.
"As we've stated all along, the speed of our production lines and the rigor of
our quality control systems make it virtually impossible for this type of thing
to happen in a production environment," spokesman Jeff Dahncke said. "The FDA
conducted a thorough inspection of our Orlando facility and found no cause for
concern. In this case, the FDA simply was unable to determine when or how the
specimen entered the package," he said.
