Hepatitis A outbreak in Illinois

MILAN, Ill., Jul 21, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A McDonald's restaurant in Milan,
Ill., remained open more than a month after a worker fell ill with Hepatitis A,
state health officials said.

Two workers from the restaurant are now among at least 20 in Rock Island County
diagnosed with Hepatitis A in recent weeks, KWQC-TV, Davenport, Iowa reported
Tuesday.

The first case of Hepatitis A was diagnosed at the restaurant June 9, but the
state health department didn't order the restaurant shut down until last
Wednesday, Quad Cities Online reported.

County and state health authorities are trying to determine why it took so long
to close the restaurant, which may have served as many as 10,000 people during
that time, Rock Island County Board chairman Jim Bohnsack said,

"There's some speculation about who to blame and whose fault it is, and (the
sheriff's department) people are good with that," Bohnsack said. "I wanted them
to do a good, internal investigation and a written report, and we'll go from
there."
