Child-obesity awareness event is planned May 30

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is teaming with families and local health organizations to "Ring the Alarm" against childhood obesity.

The group will hold an awareness event at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at B.C. Franklin Park, 1818 E. Virgin St.

The event is free, and refreshments will be served.

The American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the Tulsa City-County Health Department, the Emergency Medical Services Authority and the Tulsa Fire and Police departments will provide information to people in attendance.

Fun activities and healthy food stations will be provided and special prizes given away.

Sorority President Stephanie Jackson said parents "are leading by your example. If we can get parents to eat right, kids will eat right."
