ATLANTA, May 2, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention says it has dispensed strategic supplies to all 50 U.S. states in
response to the growing swine flu outbreak.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services agency said on its Web site
Saturday the supplies given to all states and territories comes from the CDC
Strategic National Stockpile division.
In addition, CDC officials have offered U.S. states interim guidance regarding
school closures. Numerous schools have been closed nationwide in an attempt to
stem the spread of the swine flu.
The U.S. agency said its response to the spread of the H1N1 influenza strain has
been aggressive and oriented toward reducing transmission and illness severity.
The agency added its actions have also been based on offering the general
public, healthcare providers and public health officials with the best
information regarding the escalating health emergency.
The group recommended any individuals who are ill should avoid contact with
others except when seeking medical attention.
