New warning on painkillers

WASHINGTON -- Over-the-counter pain relievers will carry new, bolder warnings about the risk of liver damage or stomach bleeding, the Food and Drug Administration said yesterday.

Products containing acetaminophen, such as Tylenol, will carry a prominent package warning about the liver-damage risks of taking too much.

Separately, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers, such as aspirin and Advil, will carry bold warnings about the risk of stomach bleeding, the FDA said.
