'TV' linked to kids asthma

LONDON - Children who watch TV longer than two hours a day have twice the risk of developing asthma, British researchers reported yesterday.

"Breathing patterns associated with sedentary behavior could lead to developmental changes in the lungs," wrote the University of Glasgow's Andrea Sherriff, whose team studied more than 3,000 kids from birth to age 12.

Boys and girls who routinely sit in front of a television for at least two hours a day were found to be nearly twice as likely as others to be diagnosed with asthma by age 12.

The study appears in the journal Thorax.
