U.S. troops gaining weight

WASHINGTON, Feb 11, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A Defense Department report
suggests U.S. troops are gaining weight under the stress of combat deployments.

The study, published in the department's Medical Surveillance Monthly Report,
says nearly one in 20 servicemen are diagnosed as clinically overweight, USA
Today reported Tuesday.

Stress and return from combat deployment were cited as the most frequent reasons
for gaining weight.

The report said obesity is a significant military medical concern because it is
associated with decreased military operational effectiveness.
