Oct. 31--Getting sick of the campaign season? Not to worry, Election Day is this Tuesday.
Getting sick from the flu? Well, it looks like there might be some relief at the same time.
As part of the "Vote & Vax" campaign, two Sacramento County polling places will also serve as flu clinics. They're part of an effort to immunize large swaths of residents by tapping into what is expected to be a massive voter turnout.
"Influenza kills a lot of people each year," said Dr. Tom Hopkins, an area physician and correspondent for the local NBC affiliate sponsoring one of the clinics.
From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Election Day, people can get flu shots at the Rancho Cordova City Hall at 2729 Prospect Park Drive. The Sacramento County Immunization Program will be running that site and offering the vaccine for $10.
From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., people can head to the Capital Christian Center at 9470 Micron Ave. in Sacramento to get a vaccination at Hopkins' clinic. The cost there is $30.
"Vote & Vax" is a national collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the nonprofit Sickness Prevention Achieved Through Regional Collaboration.
The clinics shouldn't slow down voting at the polls, which are expected to be busy, said Brad Buyse, a county election spokesman.
