Learn how to fight cancer through exercise, nutrition


South Lake Hospital will present a cancer-education wellness program called "Survivorship Care" from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the National Training Center on the hospital campus, 1099 Citrus Tower Blvd., Clermont.

The program will be about nutrition and exercise.

The session will be led by Erin Brooker, physical therapist, and Kristi Secrest, occupational therapist with Physiotherapy Associates in Ocoee; and Judy Leeser, a registered dietitian at South Lake Hospital. A personal trainer from the NTC will be available to answer questions.

The final program for the fall series, "Positive Strategies to Manage Your Mood," is set for 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 20 with presenter Tori Kelley of Central Florida Mental Health Inc.

The series then will resume in January and continue through April.

Tuesday Farmer's Market

Tavares Tuesday Farmer's Market hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday featuring produce, plants, flowers, baked goods, seafood, jams and jellies, herbs, handmade crafts and more at Tavares Station, next to Wooton Park on Lake Dora.

*The Friends of the Leesburg Public Library is having a surplus book sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in meeting room B of the library, 100 E. Main St.

*The Eustis Memorial Library Bookstore, 120 N. Center St. is having a silent auction of special books through 6 p.m. Oct. 31. The bookstore's annual half-price sale is scheduled from Nov. 3 through Dec. 31, with hardcover and paperback books, videos, puzzles and more.

The bookstore is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. The bookstore is closed on holidays.

*Eustis Memorial Library offers a free crafts program for children 4 to 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays at the library, 120 N. Center St. This month's program theme is "Bears and Others Animals in the Forest." Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult.

*The City of Tavares Public Library's Youth Department offers a variety of activities for babies to teens at the library, 314 N. New Hampshire Ave.

"Mommy and Me Story Time" is at 10:30 a.m. every Monday for babies and toddlers through age 2.

Story times for children ages 2 to 5 and their parents are held at 11 a.m. every Wednesday and Thursday.

After-school crafts for children in kindergarten through fifth grade will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. the first, second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

After-school movie is shown the third Wednesday of every month at 3:15 p.m. Call the library for movie title.

The library also is accepting registration for its special pumpkin-patch story time and costume parade planned for 11 a.m. Oct. 29 and 30. The program is limited each day to 20 children ages 2 to 5. To register, call the library's Youth Department at 352-742-6473.

*Friends of the Fruitland Park Public Library will have a book sale and fall festival from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the library, 205 W. Berckman St. The festival will feature books, DVDs, videocassettes, food, entertainment, crafts and produce.

Club meetings, events

*The Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 188 of South Lake County will meet Wednesday at the building at the entrance to Lake David Park off State Road 50 in Groveland. A social hour will begin at 1 p.m. followed by the business meeting at 2 p.m.

The KWVA also will present its annual Veterans Day celebration and car show on Nov. 9 at the Citrus Tower off U.S. Highway 27 in Clermont. The daylong program is dedicated to all veterans.

*The Golden Triangle Stamp Club will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at Waterman Village's main lodge on Donnelly Street, Mount Dora.

The group will meet for its holiday luncheon at noon Dec. 12 at the American Legion Building, 101 S. Bay St., Eustis. Cost is $6.

The group also will have a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Eustis Elks Lodge. Rental costs are $10 for large tables, $5 for small. Vendors sought

The Woman's Club of Eustis is seeking vendors for a Trash & Treasure fundraiser set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 8 at the club's home, 277 N. Center St.

Spaces are available for a donation of $15 or $20 including the use of a 6-foot table (limited quantities available).
