LONDON, Sep 29, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Toxicology tests are being conducted
to determine whether a super hot chili sauce was responsible for the death of a
British man.
Aspiring chef Andrew Lee, 33, of Eddington, West Yorkshire, was found dead the
morning after he and a friend competed to see who could create the spiciest
sauce and then eat it, The Times of London reported Monday.
The newspaper says Lee made the tomato sauce with red chilies grown in his
father's garden.
"He apparently got into bed at 2:30 a.m. and started scratching all over," said
Lee's sister, Claire Chadbourne. "Who would have thought he could have died from
eating chili sauce? We don't know of anything else that could have caused his
death."
An inquest established that Lee was in perfect health and had just passed a
medical examination for his job as a fork-lift truck driver.
