BEIJING, Sep 27, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Chinese food safety officials say no
additional tainted milk has been found in inspections carried out during the
last two weeks.
The country's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and
Quarantine said Friday that it found no melamine in milk tested after Sept. 14,
a probe that included 296 batches of liquid milk and yogurt products from 47
brands, Xinhua, the state-run Chinese news agency, reported.
Brands tested included Yili, Mengniu, Guangming and others and the tests were
carried out across China's major cities, officials told the news agency. As of
Sept. 23, nearly 13,000 Chinese infants had been hospitalized with kidney
problems after drinking milk contaminated with melamine.
Some 7,074 tons of dairy products containing melamine had been recalled and
removed from retail shelves across China as of Sept. 23, the State
Administration for Industry and Commerce told Xinhua.
