WASHINGTON, Aug 11, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The U.S. Food Safety and
Inspection Service announced the recall of approximately 4,535 pounds of pork
products in Hawaii because they might be contaminated.
The FSIS said Palama Holdings LLC of Kapolei, Hawaii, initiated the recall
because the fully cooked pork products might be contaminated with Listeria
monocytogenes.
The recall involves 16-ounce bags of "May's Hawaii Kalua Brand Pork, Fully
Cooked, Smoke Flavor Added." The bags, available for retail purchase, have a
"freeze-by" date of "9/17/08."
The recall also involves 10-pound cases of "May's Kalua Brand Pork." Each case
has a date code of "21708" and case code "325469." The cases, each containing
two 5-pound packages, were intended for food service use.
The pork products were distributed to Hawaii food service and retail
establishments on the islands of Hawaii, Kauai, Maui and Oahu.
