Your mother was right when she told you to take the time to chew your food.

When University of Rhode Island researchers had 30 young women eat the same meal - pasta, tomatoes and cheese - twice, they consumed an average of 70 fewer calories when they ate slowly and chewed the food thoroughly, says an American Journal of Clinical Nutrition report.
