Burrata cheese recalled in California


WASHINGTON, Jun 2, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The U.S. Food and Drug
Administration announced the recall of Caseificio Voglie di Latte-brand burrata
cheese because of possible contamination.

The FDA said the Brisbane, Calif., company voluntarily recalled the product due
to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can
cause serious infections.

The product, sold in California retail stores and restaurants, weighs
approximately 8.8 ounces and is packaged in a white and green plastic wrapper
with the manufacturer's name, "Caseificio Voglie di Latte" and the product name
"Burrata" The only batch subject to the recall will be labeled with the
expiration date of "24/5/2008."

Consumers with the recalled cheese can return it to the place of purchase for a
refund. Consumers with questions can contact the company at 415-468-9800.
