Gene causes severe obesity


A GENETIC cause of severe obesity has been uncovered that causes rapid weight gain even without extra food.


Although rare, affecting less than one per cent of the obese population, the defect raises new questions about obesity metabolism.


The US research highlights the role of a gene calledMrap2 which exists in mice and has a human counterpart.
