Atlantic City delays smoking ban

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Mar 27, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The Atlantic City City
Council held off voting on a casino smoking ban Wednesday night, the council
president said.

The proposed ordinance comes almost a year after the city implemented a partial
bar on casino smoking, which allowed patrons to continue lighting up in only 25
percent of the casino building, The (New Jersey) Star-Ledger reported Wednesday.

City Council President William Marsh requested that the proposal be held back
until the council's April 9 meeting because of last-minute alterations.

"I have been totally left out of this," Marsh said. "I just want some time to be
certain about this."

The new ordinance reportedly would allow smokers to puff away in enclosed rooms
that would have to be built within 90 days for the casinos avoid a 100 percent
smoking ban, Press of Atlantic City.com reported.
