LOS ANGELES, Jan 24, 2008 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A Southern California woman has
sued Dannon, claiming that the yogurt maker misled consumers with false claims
for supposedly super-healthy products.
Trish Wiener, a catering company owner in Northridge who described herself as
health-conscious, told the Los Angeles Times that Dannon was taking advantage of
people like her. She said that she bought some of the Dannon products in hopes
of getting relief from digestive problems.
The federal lawsuit seeks refunds for all purchasers of Activia, Activia Light
and DanActive products.
"You're hearing these scientific terms and you're thinking that they have come
up with something," Wiener said. "But the only effect that it had on me was that
it tasted poorly."
A spokesman for Dannon, now part of Group Damone, a French company, said that
the company believes that its products are beneficial and has clinical studies
demonstrate that.
