Health Tip: Little Kids and Some Pets Don't Mix

(HealthDay News) -- Pets can be a lot of fun to play with, and to help kids learn responsibility. But some pets may not be safe for young children.

The American Academy of Family Physicians recommends that children under age 5 stay away from these animals:

  • Baby chicks and ducks.
  • Any animals at farms or petting zoos.
  • Salamanders, frogs and toads.
  • Snakes, turtles, lizards and other reptiles.
  • Puppies and kittens. Consider older animals instead.
