Went into ER at 12:30 a.m. from a severe A-Fib attack, with a flu epidemic, they left me on a gurney FOURTEEN HOURS before the on call cardiologist came in and asked ME what I wanted them to do, when 1. they knew my enzymes were rising indicating a pending heart attack and 2. never contacted my family physician at any time or he'd had me sent to Springfield. By the time I got to say "Send me to Springfield, IL," I couldn't sit or lie down because I was going into a heart attack from my heart racing so fast and my B/P was all over the place. No less than 3 people at Springfield told me I'd saved my own life by going to St. John's Hospital because Effingham will never be given license to put in stents and I needed THREE. Nothing was resolved when I wrote a complaint to the administrator, so you are basically taking your own life in your own hands when you enter this hospital. Always asked to be sent elsewhere.

My nephew was home visiting with my son several years before that and his appendix ruptured before they got him to the operating table, leaving us in a room for 3 hours before getting to him, causing him a 9 hour stay.

My sister-in-law's brother-in-law died from an anesthesiologist's error of removing the ventilation tube to soon, and when her brother-in-law went into cardiac arrest, the attendant put the ventilation tube down the esophagus instead of the lungs and he died after a successful prostrate surgery.

I'm scared to DEATH of this hospital (no pun intended) and every time I've visited the place, especially ER, and rooms are always done a lick and a promise - this hospital has a serious problem with patients getting MERSA!

P.S. I NEVER read email from the one I'm posting, so please do NOT contact me. Thanks.

Long wait to start it all off. No one even comes to the waiting room to check on you. The staff is unfriendly & you are treated as an annoyance. They tried to dispense medication that has caused a negative reaction multiple times, like they totally ignored being told repeatedly that particular medication didn't settle the last time it was taken. Felt like the staff were total amatures & had no training. They certainly had no training in appropriate bedside manner. Horrible experience.
