Back in January 2000 my son was in an horrific truck accident, after a month in ICU at Umass he was sent to Fairlawn in a comma for rehab! On a Friday nite @6. By Sunday afternoon he was by the grace of God and one descent RN rushed back to Umass because he was dying! From the lack of care. He was sent back there twice because being 20 and a TBI no place for him to go. The 3rd time we were asked to leave because our expectation were too high! CAN YOU IMAGINE??To this very day I remember sitting in that directors office and her telling us that! Yes we left he went back to Umass. They let him fall out of bed, the PCA were awful, if we were not there with him 24 hrs. God only know what would have happened to him.He had c-diff and again was unconscious, trying to get the attention of them to get help to change him, being told over and that's not my job! . 103+ temps! NO Dr was on duty in the hospital over the weekend! I begged for a doctor, NO ONE ever came, the respiratory therapist and head RN on duty them looked like maintenance people! It was a NIGHTMARE! But I will give them this the speech therapist was excellent! The medical care there was a disgrace. I can't imagine its much better but unfortunately my poor sister is being sent there right now for rehab from triple bypass and a stroke. I pray they have improved! If they have I will report it, back in 2000 we were not so quick to broadcast such things I will now..
Never have I experienced such negligence and disregard for patients lives. My father was there less than 12 hours when he need to rush out to another hospital because of negligence, which was admitted by the staff that was supposed to take care of him. Horrifying, and if you have no choice to go there I suggest someone stay with your loved one around-the-clock!
