I was diagnosed with asthma/allergies at a very young age. My parents made sure that I was taken to the best doctors/specialists they could find. Many times that meant driving to a facility that was 2 hours away. I remember how hard it was to breathe and those trips for allergy shots every week. I remember how IMPORTANT it was to have a specialist in the treatment of both asthma and allergies. After being treated by other physicians (as a young adult) and not getting the results or personalized care I was used to in my childhood, I needed to make a change. I remember many a night, having an asthma attack, and rushing to the hospital. I remember the last time that I had a major attack and how I got to the hospital - via ambulance. My wife was scared and didn't know what to do. I decided that I had find a specialist that could help me avoid going through that type of event again. That was over 20 years ago. I searched for a specialist that could treat my allergies and keep my asthma under control. I needed someone that understood the factors that triggered my asthma attacks and would be on the edge of new breakthroughs in allergy treatment. I found Dr Eric Schenkel. I have not been to the hospital for an asthma attack since !!! Dr Schenkel took the time to review my past - and test my present condition to formulate a plan for going forward to control my asthma with minimal medication. After testing me for allergies(skin test), he determined that some of the medication I was on was not needed, while others were outdated. Together, we agreed on a go forward plan that cut my medication while increasing the effectiveness of the treatment. I also enrolled in some of the clinical trials which enabled me to be proactive in my own treatment while working closely with Dr Schenkel and his staff. Dr Schenkel and his staff have never failed to alert me to new ideas that may help ease my allergy symptoms. He also coordinates my care with my family doctor by recommending a flu shot each year. Dr Schenkel even noticed when my family doctor had inadvertently prescribed medication that affected my blood pressure when used with my allergy medication. We discussed a plan, coordinated with my family doctor, and made the needed changes without putting my health at risk. That is professionalism and someone I want watching out for me and my family. I currently see Dr Schenkel twice a year - once at the beginning of spring and then again in the fall thanks to my allergies and asthma being well controlled. Dr Schenkel and his staff have taught me how to watch for symptoms and track my health to better control and treat my asthma. I would be remiss if I didn't mention all the staff members at Dr Schenkel's office, but I am sure I would leave out someone. Many of the nurses have been there as long as I can remember. They are a credit to the office,greet you with a smile, and always professional. Without listing all their names, just allow me to say - Thanks.

Dr. Schenkel offers Lehigh Valley residents the quality of care that is indeed rare. He is patient, thoughtful and thorough in his treatment. He was able to find a solution to a problem with hives that I have had for over 30 years. He is a published expert in his field and I highly recommend him to anyone seeking solutions for their allergies.
