Is Sedation Dentistry Right for You?
Are you one of the 21% of the population that would rather dive off a 50-foot bridge into ice cold water than have a dental procedure? Even with all of the modern advances that have taken place in recent years, going to see the dentist is very difficult for many.
At Mountain View Dental we pride ourselves on creating a soothing environment for our patients. Our primary goal is to make your experience as relaxing as possible. Even with our comfortable atmosphere the option for sedation dentistry may be best for you.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
Here at Mountain View Dental we use oral conscious sedation. This is a very safe method of sedation that allows the patient to relax without being completely put under. The sedation is generally accomplished with two tablets that are taken in our office.
While we allow the medication to take affect we use an advanced monitoring system to observe your vital signs. Once the medication begins to relax you, we then add nitrous oxide. Within a few minutes the sedation is achieved and we can begin to take care of your smile.
Am I a candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
During our complimentary sedation consultation Dr. Crusan will discuss in detail your comprehensive health history evaluation to determine if you are healthy enough for Oral Sedation. Most patients meet the health requirements to have Oral Sedation.
Are there any special requirements to have Sedation Dentistry?
There are just a few. Most importantly you must have someone to drive you home from the appointment and stay with you for the first few hours as you will still be medicated.
There are a few simple dietary requirements for the day before your appointment. Dr. Crusan will go through the details with you at your consultation and you will be on your way to a comfortable dental experience.
What have our patients said about their sedation experiences?
The most common comment we hear is I dont remember a thing about the appointment. Would you be able to say that about your last dental procedure? Even though you are conscious, the medication has an amnesic effect that often results in our patients not remembering the experience at all.

Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays, which includes the panoramic x-ray for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth as well as the bite-wing x-ray series for proper diagnosis of proximal decay of posterior teeth.
Dental Implants
We will work with an implant specialist to create an implant for a missing single tooth, missing multiple teeth, or replace a removable appliance.
Teeth Bleaching
Our state-of-the-art, in-office Power Bleaching system will make your teeth whiter in less than 1.5 hours. Another option is our home bleaching system you take with you for results in 2 weeks. You can also consider a combination program of both systems for optimal, long-term results.

You can have a new smile with all-porcelain crowns (empressed material) on the anterior teeth. For the posterior, we use porcelain fused to metal.

You should have a standard cleaning at least twice a year. A periodontal treatment includes an Adult Prophy (basic cleaning). If it has been over a year since your last cleaning, possible treatment will include either Periodontal Scaling (deeper) or Root Planning and Scaling (requires anesthetic).
Mouth Guards
Whether you are an athlete or casual sports participant, you should wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, a bite guard will help reduce symptoms of TMJ. We custom make mouth guards in both soft and hard materials.
Removable Dental Prosthesis
For missing teeth, we can make dentures or removable partials for you.
