I have suffered with shoulder pain for months which was ultimately diagnosed as tendonitis. The doctors warned me not to over use the shoulder muscles since this condition can become chronic. I also happen to be paraplegic. I NEED my arms and shoulders to help me compensate for the loss of use in my legs. I'd tried icing the shoulders, had ultrasound on my shoulders and used prescriptions anaesthetic patches applied for pain relief. Nothing helped. My new physical therapist, Mary Falk, described Bowen technique and suggested I might try it. I honestly have to admit I was sceptical at first but I thought I might just as well go ahead and try it. Nothing else had helped me. I couldn't understand how this form of light touch and gentle manipulation could be helpful in relieving my severe pain when no other form of therapy had. Well, imagine my delight when after even the first treatment I had some relief! I have had only three treatments and I am almost completely free of pain and my range of motion has nearly been fully restored. She was also able to help me reduce the swelling in my feet with the same technique. I have become an avid believer in Bowen therapy and I highly recommend Mary for her work as a therapist.
