My Mom had to go into a nursing home for long term care. It was a decision that came after she cracked her vertebrae. The hospital gave had two facilities that said they had a bed. I was so unsure of what to do. I tried to compare the facilities but in the end the closeness of Maywood swayed the final decision.

When she arrived via the ambulance transport she was treated so well. They checked to make sure she'd had dinner, then offered her dessert - and promptly got her some chocolate ice cream. The transition went smoother than I could have ever imagined.

She's been there for a month. The staff have been wonderful. When I walked in today my Mother had just been sick and had missed the garbage can. The aide had cleaned it up and was comforting my Mom who was crying. I never imagined I'd be pleased my Mom was in a facility where there are three beds to a room - but I am.

They work hard to get my Mom to activities - which she resists. She hates it there but she'd be the first to tell you it's not because of the facility (her exact quote is, "they are so nice here") - it's because she wants to be at home.

I will always worry about her but I worry less now as I see her getting better care than I could give her here at home!
