Karen Winchester, M.D. practices comprehensive ophthalmology with particular interest in diseases of the cornea and cares for patients with glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, as well.
Dr. Winchester earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, interned at Cornell University New York Hospital and completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. Dr. Winchester also held a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Iowa.
Dr. Winchester is a graduate of Amherst College, where she double majored in Philosophy and Russian and was the first female member of the school’s intercollegiate squash team. After graduation, she studied at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow and, upon returning to the United States, became head of the Russian Department at a Manhattan private school. “In my free time, I volunteered in the Children’s Ward of Sloan-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center, and a light went on inside me. I had to become a doctor.”
Dr. Winchester enjoys yoga, hiking, biking and skiing with her family and has been on volunteer medical missions performing cataract surgery in Madurai, India and Mombasa, Kenya.

From the moment I entered the clinic lobby, I was personally welcomed by the patient services coordinator, checked my insurance, confirmed my appointments and within 5 minutes I was in an exam room with the TECH doing some initial evaluations getting me ready for my appointment with Dr. Winchester.

Dr. Winchester did a complete medicine and supplement review and reviewed my medical surgery experiences since my last Eye Exam and Refraction. I left Dr. WInchester's office knowing that I had been thoroughly and properly checked out, and given a new prescription that was so minor in changes, that we both decided that new glasses were not needed at this time.

I recommend Dr. Winchester wholeheartedly.



welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better. I've been to one or two places that had a really bad smell. I was worried I would encounter it here too but I didn't notice anything. Their equipment was very advanced and sophisticated. I was very impressed.
