Dr. Burkhardt performed my breast augmentation surgery in the late 1990's. I was very specific about the type of implant I desired (size as well as where I wanted the placement of the device). On the day of my surgery (while laying on the surgical table, IV in my arm, anesthesiologist at my head preparing to start the propofol gtt) Dr. Burhardt told the surgical assist what implant type & size to prepare, and she told him that they didn't have it. They were out. I already was there, my time off of work a done deal. He said "I'll just put in 360 cc & over fill to 390 cc". What could I say? But, it wasn't the same as what I asked for (I wanted the 390 cc implant that was supposed to be over filled to 410 cc. The circumference is larger with the implant I wanted - and paid for, but didn't get).

Post-op I got an infection in one of my breasts - it was huge, hot, red & painful. It happens. However, my implants never did ever soften up, they were hard like basketballs. Within a few months I began having headaches, red sore eyes, fatigue. Then joint & muscle pain, and other symptoms followed soon thereafter. One day I told Dr. Burkhardt that I had started having all sorts of weird symptoms after my breast augmentation surgery, that I was getting pretty sick and I wanted them out, and he said: "Prove it". That scared me pretty bad. He can be quite intimidating if he wants to be. So I kept my mouth shut and never went back again. Ever.

I eventually had the implants removed, but the capsular contractions couldn't be completely removed with the implants. I also didn't get better either ...

Eventually I was referred to a rheumatologist and diagnosed with lupus, sojogren's & raynaud's. I have terrible chronic pain. I couldn't work any more and I had to file for social security disability. Now I live hand-to-mouth, hardly scrapping by.

Having breast augmentation was the single most foolish thing I've ever done, bar none. I ruined my life all for the sake of vanity. I was stupid, stupid, stupid. God help me.

I was a patient of Dr. Burkhardt's some time ago,, before all of this internet business. He was an outstanding professional whom I have referred others to in the past. I was so fortunate to have been a patient of this physician who treats everyone with respect and compassion. My plastic surgery results are still outstanding and I can never thank Dr. Burkhardt enough for repairing the extensive damage to my face from the auto accident I suffered in 1978!
