I would not recommend this practitioner to any human being, if they value their reputation and/or continuity of care. I saw this woman at one of the offices where she provides mental health assessments. I chose to contact this clinic based on its stellar reputation. I was looking to establish care with a new practitioner due to financial hardship, I had just been approved for charity care, and I was pleased when I got in to see someone. The staff member told me over the phone that there was a chance I could be seen for ongoing care. Ms. Flynn spent one hour with me, mostly asked me some open-ended questions and wrote a lot. But, she said that we did not finish the assessment, and told me schedule another appointment with her in order to complete it. While I was on my way to our next appointment I got a call from the clinic saying that they were very sorry but Bernie/Bernadine was sick that day. So they scheduled another appointment for me to see her a week out. A couple days later I got a voicemail from the clinic informing me that she no longer works there (?). When I asked about finishing the assessment and the possibility of ongoing care, the clinic supervisor apologized a lot but said they really aren't seeing people ongoing much anymore, but offered that I could see someone else there for an assessment. Can't do much with an assessment and no one to treat me, so I moved on. THEN - I happened upon some of my medical records a few months later, and thank God I did: To my horror, Ms. Flynn had written FOUR PAGES of notes to document our hour-long partial assessment. In these notes she frequently put quotes around words and phrases I never said and would never say, but that's just the beginning. The most disgusting part of all - she wrote that I lied about a crime that happened to me four years ago. To go into any more detail is upsetting. Bottom line: I trusted this woman as a professional in an esteemed clinic, I revealed personal traumas such as that crime. Like you do when you are not feeling well and go see a therapeutic professional at a reputable clinic. Her account of what I told her of my life is not only mostly factitious, but is also malicious in tone (I'm not the only one who has made that observation). Her notes are so messed up with different life events (vaguely reminiscent of what I actually told her) mixed together into one event...(!?) I am still at a loss. Oh, but she gave me a diagnosis - from spending one hour with me. Useless, insulting, beyond hurtful, the whole thing. I'm trying to ammend the record but I don't even know where to start - who wants to go through their own four-page medical record of psych notes filled with lies about you, when your already trying to get better. It's re-traumatizing. I would literally have to go line by line, it is THAT incorrect. So, here I am. I thought it was time to let some folks know. DON'T TRUST THIS WOMAN, don't tell her about your life, don't talk to her, don't schedule an appointment because she has the power to say ANYTHING about you and make it a legal document: your medical records. The ones that follow you from doctor to doctor that you sign releases for - yeah, I've now learned the hard way not to trust the medical community so easily. So thank you, Bernadine Flynn, for that. I feel like my identity has been stolen. I've tried to fathom why this person would write such lies and paint me to be someone I am definitely not. Even I know you're not supposed to write so much detail in psych notes, and keep quotes to an absolute minimum. And yes, they should also be an objective, unbiased account of the session, and oh yes YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO MAKE STUFF UP either. All I can think of is that she was drunk or is way crazier than me. Again, it's beyond me why she did this, but she left a mess, one that I have to try and clean up. Avoid.
