by Mary Kay Morgan, MS CPT If part of your traditional New Year's menu includes collards, but you'd rather avoid the traditional bacon fat laden, cooked past death version, give this recipe a try. No nose holding necessary ;-) **Use organic or local ingredients if possible** In a large soup pot place: 1 Tbsp. Olive oil 1 large onion - chopped 1 - 2 cloves garlic, minced or crushed 1 red, yellow or green bell pepper - chopped... 12/31/2008 8:47:31 AM
by Mary Kay Morgan, MS CPT Whether speaking to a group about nutrition, fitness, personal growth or some combination of the three, my talks are fundamentally about making a change. At some point in the presentation, I'll challenge my audience to make a decision - a resolution - to change. Positive change, yes; change that will improve health and well-being, yes; change that can bring about a whole new levels of success, yes;... 12/31/2008 8:35:04 AM
by Beth Rosenshein I cannot respect a researcher that forces women to endure the bleak existence of profound hypogonadism unnecessarily. A recent article on msnbc.com titled: Study firmly ties hormone use to breast cancer describes how hormone use is unhealthy and increases a woman's risk of breast cancer. Do all hormone regimens really lead to increased breast cancer? Of course not. This was my online response to such... 12/15/2008 9:44:39 PM
by Al Jacobs News Item: Survey Reveals Students' Dishonesty. For those of you who imagined otherwise, high-school-aged youths will shoplift from a store or cheat on an exam. It's official now. The Josephson Institute, a nonprofit foundation based in Los Angeles, surveyed 29,760 students at 100 randomly chosen high schools throughout the nation. Within the past year, thirty percent acknowledged having stolen from... 12/15/2008 12:55:02 PM
by TotalHealthBthrus Oh no! That's the feeling of dread we all get when we first see those unmistakable signs of a cold -- runny nose, a scratchy sore throat and a horse cough. We all hope each year to be able to avoid catching colds. With more than 200 viruses that can cause the common cold, you want to think about preventative measures ahead of time and know the action steps to take at the first signs and symptoms of... 12/15/2008 10:56:51 AM
by Beth Rosenshein I recently received a phone call and the woman on the other end, who is also a medical doctor, was very distraught. She had just lied to her doctor so she could receive treatment for menopause. She knew it was wrong to lie because she hates it when patients lie to her, but she felt she had no other choice. I've known her for some time. When we first met she was skeptical and she questioned my motives... 12/9/2008 10:09:04 PM
by Al Jacobs In the closing weeks of the election now thankfully concluded, attention focused on the failing economy and a need for the federal government to address the problems quickly and effectively. Amidst passage of the $700 billion bailout legislation, the Bush administration proposed purchase of "toxic mortgages" from major investors as a way to invigorate the economy. As expected, calls for government... 11/18/2008 11:58:54 AM
by wojcik11 Transitioning into the winter months equates to less sun exposure and significantly lower levels of Vitamin D systemically. Vitamin D deficiency was once thought to be fairly rare and usually associated with a condition known as rickets, but multiple research studies are now revealing that many of us are indeed Vitamin D deficient without knowing it and it can impact various aspects of our health.... 11/11/2008 8:36:52 AM
by Beth Rosenshein We know what causes menopause and we know that menopause results in multiple hormonal deficiencies because the ovaries make multiple hormones. Lose the ovaries and you lose the hormones. We also know that replacing only estrogen leads to all kinds of problems and is not a good idea. We know that only replacing estrogen and progesterone is also not a good long term solution and also leads to health... 11/9/2008 9:19:38 PM
by TotalHealthBthrus October was Breast Cancer Prevention month, and as always, fund raising and education initiatives were everywhere. There are many advances in our understanding of how breast cancer develops, yet out of all the articles I saw in the mainstream media, none of them explained the most important factors influencing breast health. Most breast cancer is the type that is called hormone sensitive. That means... 11/6/2008 8:13:21 AM
