Is Organic Produce Worth the Money?

In this economy, you want to do everything you can to pinch a penny.

You make grocery lists, plan out a menu, and clip coupons all in the name of saving some dinero at the grocery store. And although as a mom, wife, or self aware woman you have chosen to do everything you can to be frugal there is simply one area you should not compromise on: your health.

So does this mean that you have to shell out your hard earn cash for top, organic grocery produce? Well undoubtedly we have all heard the many debates for and against organic foods. We have heard that there is no nutritional advantage to eating organic produce as well as there is no one standardize way to ensure the food you eat is in fact organic. While this is true, the case for eating organic is not centered around nutrition absorption, but rather an opposition to the harmful pesticides that are used in the conventional farming of produce. These pesticides are not only a detriment to the human body but is also insulting the earth and it's ecosystem.

So should you be spending your money on those pricey organic fruits and veggies at the market in these upsetting economic times? Well, much to our advantage Foodnews.org has compiled a list of dirty vs clean fruits and vegetables. The Environmental Working Group, owner of Foodnews.org, has poured over research in an effort to determine which produce tends to carry high amounts of pesticides and which ones are OK to buy in conventional form if you chose to not buy organic. This guide is even available for download to your iPhone!

This tool can be very useful not only for your health, but for your purses as well. Shop safe and healthy!
