Sep. 12--LAS CRUCES -- A national bus tour urging people to fight cancer through the power of their voices will stop today in Las Cruces.
The "Fight Back Express" is expected to be at the Southern New Mexico Cancer Center, 150 Roadrunner Parkway, at 7:15 p.m. today. The bus is sponsored by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network to emphasize the role that elected officials can have in the fight against cancer, which is estimated to kill 565,650 Americans this year.
Cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and their families will stage a rally to welcome the bus. Visitors to the bus can share their stories with elected officials through the electronic "Picture A Cure" program, and sign a petition in support of accessible health care to every American.
The bus tour is part of a six-month, 48-state tour to raise public awareness about the critical need for a health care program for all residents.
The "Fight Back Express" bus tour began in Ohio in early May, and it will continue through the Nov. 4 general election. More information about the national tour is available on the Web at the American Cancer Society's Web site at www.acscan.org.
